John has been around the Remote/Offshore Medical, Occupational Health & Safety, and the work & rescue @ height arena for some time. Since starting work in the construction industry as a Steeplejack, and volunteering as a first aider with St Andrews Ambulance Association in the early eighties.

Whilst progressing through training in Industrial Rope Access and developing techniques for rescue at height & in confined spaces , as well as rising through the ranks within the Parachute Regiment 15sv Battalion as a PT Instructor/Top rope & abseil supervisor , he has gained valuable knowledge and considerable experience in all his chosen fields.

John is a Rescue/Safety boat coxwain (RYA), Floods & Swift  Water Rescue Instructor (IFRA), Rope Access Supervisor (IRATA), Rope Rescue Supervisor (IRIA) and registered competent person for the inspection and certification of personnel protective equipment for work & rescue.

John also draws on his considerable experience from this time with HM Special Forces, as a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Medic reservist, also within the Construction, Oil & Gas Production industries as well as with the NHS as a Paramedic.

In 1990 John recruited and lead a team of eight who achieved a World Record -The Longest Continuous Abseil, 197,000 feet over 10 hrs, this was the start of  his Rescue Unit,  He named The High Access Rescue Team, which he continued to form into the Charity it is today.  This Abseil raised over £100 thousand for Yorkhill Children,s Hospital.

In 2004 John resigned his Directorship from the charity to form  HART Medical & Technical Rescue Services (HART Services Scotland)  and in January 2009  the Hazardous Area Response Team, of HART Services merged with other like teams through-out Scotland to form- Civil Defence Scotland-Community Emergency Response Team.- A Charity registered in Scotland.

John still works as a Medic / Occupational Health & Safety Advisor on North Sea rigs, platforms & Dive Support Vessels as well as other challenging, difficult and often hostile areas around the world.

As a Trainer/Assessor  John's valuable knowledge and experience enables him to manage the (Not For Profit Company) in a friendly and professional manner.

John finds remote medicine and the promotion of health & safety, especially work & rescue at height very rewarding and wishes to pass on, all the tutorial and practical aspects whilst complying with national guidelines and HSE regulations.
